A Believer is NOT Bitten from the Same Hole Twice“Say: O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that, which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that, which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine.” (TMQ: 109:1-6)
With the upcoming American election, we felt it time to look into the agenda behind voting in a non-Islamic Western-styled democratic election. First, this article will explain the history of becoming American. Next, we will examine groups essentially left out of this process. Finally, we will discuss how this relates to Muslims living in America while explaining who really rules America. We discuss these three issues in regards to voting because voting is a tool used to voice the sentiments of the people in America.
Whites Who Assimilated
The American Government has used voting in its system (Democracy) to declare whose worthy of inclusion. At one time, only the votes of the landowners mattered, and then only of the white men, then only of the white people. Blacks and people of color were systematically excluded from the American political process. Why? The reason why certain groups were allowed to “voice their opinions” and others were not was because certain groups were really “American” while other groups were kept outside. We should recall from American history that only White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Males were considered “White” or American. The significance of this fact is that the real “Americans” had privileges and rights that others did not. Thus, voting is the process by which the system says that your voice counts, and that you are one of “Us.”
The core of the problem is that capitalism and freedom will never be changed, even by the majority unless there is a revolution to change the system.
Who is Excluded Systematically
William P. Picket, ‘The Negro Problem,’ 1909 said:
“Unless…the individual is entitled to be respected as a social equal on his own merits, no business success or accumulation of wealth, nor even the possession of political power can make him other than an inferior. If the man with whom I transact business is deemed unworthy to accept social courtesies at my hand, I proclaim him to be my inferior, and any theory upon which it is assumed that in this country the Caucasian and negro can meet upon a plane of equality in the shop, the market place, or the political caucus, and yet hold themselves aloof in all social relations, is thoroughly fallacious… the negro, North and South is denied the privilege of associating freely and on a footing of equality with other citizens.”
When a social system is based on majority rule, the majority can deny any minority equal status in the society. And this is what the democratic form of government is based upon, the rule of the majority. Whether you are African-American, Hispanic, Arab, Pakistani, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, or any minority, different rules will apply to these groups if the majority wants it to be so. Look at the Hispanic and Arab or Indian situation today. Laws are being passed to discriminate against the Hispanics, as well as sedition and terrorism laws against Arabs and those who practice Islam as a religion and way of life. If Muslims think that voting for some politician is going to alleviate the unfavorable conditions being faced by Muslims, then take a look at what voting has done for blacks who have been voting for many years, and yet the status of blacks remain the same, that of being on the bottom and powerless to affect change in their communities. Who can stop the liquor stores or drug houses under capitalism?
What is the Reason Behind this?
When we look at the history of the Irish, Italians, Greeks, Slavic peoples, and others; we see that the main difference between these groups and groups above was that they melted into the political process. Essentially they left their cultural identities (their language, norms and values, names, and religious practices behind). They became part of the majority. They assimilated and acculturated to the American society. How did this happen? The view of these European groups by the dominant white group changed from a racial one to a cultural one. If these groups could acculturate into the American mainstream society, then they could be with the majority. To acculturate means to take on cultural values. American cultural values contain a belief in Freedom, “free elections,” voting for freedom in free elections means being a good citizen. We have all heard “It is your civic duty to vote.” Every year, vote, vote, vote, for more freedom! Governments are concerned about political participation because it is a signifier on how well people are taking on its cultural values, e.g. how cohesive the system is working. Thus how good a citizen we are. We are supposed to care for our communities, recycle, work, pay our taxes, and engage in the established political process of the country, i.e. voting in the kufr democratic system. We should believe like Bush recently said, “Democratic capitalism is the best system there is.” Could this be why certain organizations, especially the major ones hammer home voting? Could this be because they are encouraged by the Government and power elite to control us as citizens? You do the research, there is plenty out there to support these supposition. Let us now turn toward our community, the Muslim Ummah.
The Political Indoctrination of Muslims
Just as the European groups (Jews included) and blacks, in order to get the perks of the system, you would have to be in the majority. However, you do not necessarily have to be physically the same to be a part of the majority. If we embrace the ideological cultural views of the American society, we might as well call ourselves “White” or “American.” Remember, historically these terms were the same. Now, as indicated above, the American Government is always concerned for its “little brothers” or “Nephews.” They want to ensure that our leadership organizations are encouraging us to assimilate and acculturate into the mainstream. Why? Obvious reasons of control and counterrevolutionary tactics that the system implores to maintain itself. By having us under control as good citizens, the less they have to worry that people will question the system and go outside the box. Thus, we will not question when they kill millions of Muslims, divide us into nation-states, spend more tax money to bailout the banks, or any other policies they might implement for the super rich who really control the country.
Voting is one tool for which to assimilate Muslims into the American society. As what happened with the Jews and other Europeans, they left behind their cultural practices and beliefs. They changed their name from Cohen to Kerry, Capone to Carrington, and stopped speaking Italian, Polish, or any other language not English. We know that some Muslims change their name from Muhammad to Mike.
As Muslims, we have a cultural identity. It is called Islam. We do not want to loose our connection to the global Ummah because we are here in America. We do not believe in the right of Man to legislate what is Halaal or Haraam. Who can marry who? What can be sold, etc? We have an aqeedah that will remain intact until we meet Allah. As the ayah above says, “To you be your way, and to me be mine.” This is one of the frustrating things for governments around the world in dealing with Muslims. We should be proud that we have Islam as our complete way of life, i.e., our ideology. We do not want to assimilate and loose our cultural identity as others did and as some were never allowed to do. Participating in the political process in America is only legitimizing the Kufr system that is based on freedom from Allah’s rule.
Not only this, the people that really rule and run America are the super rich power elite. For instance, G. William Domhoff states in his article “Power in America” that:
“Contrary to this pluralistic view, I will try to demonstrate how rule by the wealthy few is possible despite free speech, regular elections, and organized opposition:
“The rich” coalesce into a social upper class that has developed institutions by which the children of its members are socialized into an upper-class worldview, and newly wealthy people are assimilated.
Members of this upper class control corporations, which have been the primary mechanisms for generating and holding wealth in the United States for upwards of 150 years now.
There exists a network of nonprofit organizations through which members of the upper class and hired corporate leaders not yet in the upper class shape policy debates in the United States.
Members of the upper class, with the help of their high-level employees in profit and nonprofit institutions, are able to dominate the federal government in Washington.
The rich, and corporate leaders, nonetheless claim to be relatively powerless.
Working people have less power than in many other democratic countries.”
Here well-known social critic Noam Chomsky states:
“That the United States is not a democracy. It’s what is called a polyarchy…A polyarchy is a system in which power resides in the hands of those who manage the wealth of the nation, the responsible class of men. And the rest of the population is fragmented, distracted, allowed to participate every couple of years—they’re allowed to come and say “yes, thank you, why don’t you continue for another four years.”
They have a little choice among the responsible men, the wealth of the nation. That’s the way the country was founded. It was founded on the principle explained by Madison at the Constitutional Convention that the primary goal of government is to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. And then the Constitution was designed to ensure that”.
The minority in this case are the elite few who have the wealth of the world in their hands. Therefore, it does not matter who is elected, the elite will still use their lobbyist to push their agendas. More than this, the elite are the ones who finance both parties in the first place. This being the case, the only reason why they want us to participate, is to contain our minds and spirits. The power structure does not change; it simply controls and contains its good citizens. We do not want to melt into the majority, even symbolically. We have a political system included into our beliefs that says Islam is the only solution.
